Holden Sperling, Israel Teaching Fellows | Petach Tikvah

“Deciding which city I wanted to live in during Israel Teaching Fellows wasn’t an easy task. Overall, I was looking for a city that could give me the ultimate taste of authentic Israel with close proximity to the hip vibrancy of Tel Aviv. Petach Tikvah is just that. Known as the quintessential Israeli city, the city is a patchwork of neighborhoods that represent the diversity of the country as a whole. I can do my grocery shopping at the city’s bustling open-air market or one of several large grocery stores that closely resemble the megastores of the states; I can grab a quick dinner at one of many independently owned and run restaurants lining the streets of the city center or I can opt for familiar fair from a chain at the Petach Tikvah mall – the second largest in the country. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what Petach tikvah has to offer—and this doesn’t even account for the fact that a major asset of the city is its proximity to both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Whether you’re hankering for the hip vibrancy of the city that doesn’t stop or the rich culture of the holy city, it’s a short ride away.

I definitely would recommend Petach Tivkah to anyone who is looking for an authentic Israeli city that will allow them to experience real Israel while still just minutes from the center.”
